Fawtara E-invoicing
Fawtara e-invoicing in Oman: deadlines, requirements and how to get ready
Every VAT-registered business in Oman will have to issue and receive invoices electronically through Fawtara, the Tax Authority’s e-invoicing system. The pilot with about 100 of the largest taxpayers started in August 2026. Mandatory phases begin on 1 April 2027 and 1 October 2027. GSPU helps you assess your systems, choose a service provider and go live without disrupting your billing.
Key dates
Phase | Who | Date |
Pilot | About 100 of the largest VAT-registered taxpayers, selected by the Tax Authority | August 2026 |
Phase 1 | Suppliers with annual supplies above OMR 5 million | 1 April 2027 |
Phase 2 | All other VAT-registered businesses, including SMEs | 1 October 2027 |

The Tax Authority revised these dates by Decision No. 189/2026 on 9 August 2026. [Check the Tax Authority portal for any further change before publishing.]
How Fawtara works
- Structured invoices: invoices are created in a standard digital format (PINT OM, based on Peppol), not as PDFs or paper.
- Accredited service providers: each business connects through an accredited service provider, which exchanges invoices with the buyer’s provider and reports data to the Tax Authority (the “five-corner” model).
- Validation: invoice data is checked before or as it reaches the buyer.
- Archiving: e-invoices must be kept for 10 years.
What to do now
- Map your invoicing: systems, volumes, invoice types, credit notes, and whether your sales are B2B, B2C or B2G.
- Check your data: customer VAT numbers, product codes and tax codes must be complete and correct.
- Talk to your ERP vendor: can it produce the required format and connect to a service provider?
- Choose an accredited service provider: compare cost, integration and support.
- Test before your deadline: run parallel invoicing and fix rejections.
- Train your team: sales, finance and customer service.
How GSPU helps
- Readiness assessment: a gap report on your systems, data and processes, with a costed action plan.
- Service provider selection: independent comparison of accredited providers for your size and system.
- VAT alignment: we fix VAT coding and master data before go-live, so rejected invoices do not hold up billing.
- Go-live support: testing, first-month review and reconciliation of e-invoices to your VAT return.
- SME package: a fixed-fee readiness pack for businesses in the October 2027 phase. [Confirm fee.]
Yes, if you are VAT-registered. SMEs join from 1 October 2027.
